It was a beautiful day of walking. We started out on the
“high road” around Loch Lomond. Through the trees you could glimpse the
glistening water of the Loch below. The route was quite wide and easy walking.
There was an alternative lower path which we chose not to take. When we came
down from the highlands, we embarked on an undulating, lochside trail where the
boulders, rocks and stones, and tree roots competed to grab your feet and smash
you into the ground. We crossed numerous burns on conveniently, or otherwise
stepping stones; we passed feral mountain goats and saw the tiniest mouse in
the world. Later in the day we left the lochside and took a trail up into
hills. The path became easier. Soon we bade farewell to Loch Lomand lochside
and climbed up onto the side of the glen. The sound of the cuckoos led us along
the path. And finally down to the B & B.
